Sinai Billiards under Small External Forces
نویسنده
چکیده
Consider a particle moving freely on the torus and colliding elastically with some xed convex bodies. This model is called a periodic Lorentz gas, or a Sinai billiard. It is a Hamiltonian system with a smooth invariant measure, whose ergodic and statistical properties have been well investigated. Now let the particle be subjected to a small external force. This new system is not likely to have a smooth invariant measure. Then a Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measure describes the evolution of typical phase trajectories. We nd general suucient conditions on the external force under which the SRB measure for the collision map exists, is unique, and enjoys good ergodic and statistical properties, including Bernoulliness and an exponential decay of correlations.

A Family of Chaotic Billiards with Variable Mixing Rates
A billiard is a mechanical system in which a point particle moves in a compact container Q and bounces off its boundary ∂Q; in this paper we only consider planar billiards, where Q ⊂ R. The billiard dynamics preserves a uniform measure on its phase space, and the corresponding collision map (generated by the collisions of the particle with ∂Q, see below) preserves a natural (and often unique) a...
متن کاملTime irreversible billiards with piecewise-straight trajectories.
We introduce a new family of billiards which break time reversal symmetry in spite of having piece-wise straight trajectories. We show that our billiards preserve the ergodic and mixing properties of conventional billiards while they may turn into exponential the power law decay of correlations characteristic of Sinai type billiards. Such billiards can be implemented by squeezing the transverse...
متن کاملJu n 20 02 Sinai billiards , Ruelle zeta - functions and Ruelle resonances : microwave experiments
We discuss the impact of recent developments in the theory of chaotic dynamical systems, particularly the results of Sinai and Ruelle, on microwave experiments designed to study quantum chaos. The properties of closed Sinai billiard microwave cavities are discussed in terms of universal predictions from random matrix theory, as well as periodic orbit contributions which manifest as ‘scars’ in e...

متن کاملLimit Theorems for Locally Perturbed Planar Lorentz Processes
Modify the scatterer configuration of a planar, finitehorizon Lorentz process in a bounded domain. Sinai asked in 1981 whether for the diffusively scaled variant of the modified process convergence to Brownian motion still holds. The main result of the work answers Sinai’s question in the affirmative. Other types of local perturbations are also investigated: finite horizon periodic Lorentz proc...
